The Commonwealth Secretary-General made the remarks in the official website of organisation on September 16
Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland has commended the government of Bangladesh for its effort to accommodate the thousands of Rohingya refugees who have fled from the ongoing military atrocities in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
The Commonwealth Secretary-General made the remarks on the organisation’s official website on September 16.
Secretary-General Scotland said, “This is a major humanitarian crisis, and reports indicate that the majority who have been fleeing are women and children. I am encouraged that Bangladesh has opened its borders for those who had no choice but to leave behind their homes.”
“By providing immediate assistance – food, shelter and clothing – to hundreds of thousands of desperate people in this time of great need, the government and people of Bangladesh are acting as per the characteristic Commonwealth goodwill, and in accordance with our Commonwealth Charter.”
